Limit of coverage/insurance

Types of coverage/insurance

● Bodily injury/death coverage (for third party)

Coverage of an amount that exceeds Automobile Liability Insurance of up to 30 million yen for the injury/death of a third party.

● Property damage (for third party)

Coverage of compensation for damage caused to third party property (vehicles, premises, etc.).

● Rented vehicle

Coverage of damage to the rented vehicle at the time of accident, collision, theft or fire.

● Personal injury insurance

Insurance to cover injury, death or disability of the driver/passengers in the rented vehicle in the event of an accident.


Insurance coverage included in basic rental fee

Services and protection included in rates are different depending on 2 Rate Courses.

*Under each Course, Nippon Rent-A-Car provides indemnification by insurance/protection with the coverage as described above. Please be advised, however, that you will bear the specified deductible(s).

1. Roadside support (5 free roadside services)

1. Coverage of tires and wheel caps

We will replace your flat tire with a spare tire, and there will be no tire replacement labor charges, no tire costs due to a flat tire, and no hubcap charges if the hubcap is lost.

  • *Do not use puncture repair kits. Actual costs will be charged for use.
  • *If the rental vehicle does not have a spare tire, we will provide free transportation to the nearest garage.
  • *We may ask you to pay in advance for repairs or new tires. In that case, please keep your receipt. The cost will be refunded in person upon return.
  • *Please contact the pickup office in advance when purchasing new tires.
  • *Purchase a new tire in the same way as a flat tire. If you purchase a more expensive tire, you will be responsible for the difference.

2. Jump start

  • *Battery charging and replacement costs are the customer's responsibility.

3. Refueling when running out of fuel

  • *Maximum of 10 liters per rental period is free once.

4. Unlocking the door during lockout

  • *Applies only to standard cylinder keys and only applies when the key is inside the vehicle. In or similar situations, the customer is responsible for the costs.

5. Lift vehicle when a wheel runs off outside from the road shoulder

  • *Free service is limited to one vehicle rental period.
  • *If a winch or crane is required, subsequent costs will be borne by the customer.
  • *If other parts of the vehicle are damaged, it will be treated like any other accident.

2. Telephone assistance for trouble

3. Discount on excess hour charge

If you are late for return due to a traffic jam or any other unexpected situation, you will receive a 50% discount on the Excess Hour Charge for up to 3 hours*, subject to providing notification to pick up office at least 1 hour prior to the return time.

  • *If you are delayed for more than 3 hours, you will not be eligible.
  • *Not applicable to some tour programs or coupon products.
  • *Discounts do not apply to optional charges such as CDW and optional equipment.

4. Exemption of halfway cancellation charge (HCC)

No HCC will be charged if you return the vehicle during your rental period.

  • *If you wish to cancel your contract mid-term, please notify the rental office in advance and obtain their consent.
  • *Does not apply if the initial rental period does not exceed 12 hours.
  • *Not applicable to some tour programs or coupon products.

CDW(Collision Damage Waiver)

What is CDW (Collision Damage Waiver)? *Not insurance

CDW disclaims liability for paying deductibles for property damage and/or vehicle damage in the event of an accident. If multiple accidents occur during the rental period, CDW will only apply to the first accident.

  • CDW cannot be accepted/declined after the pickup process is completed.
  • Nippon Rent-A-Car may not offer CDW options for the following customers and/or additional drivers:

NOC (Non-Operation Charge)

What is a Non-Operation Charge (NOC)?

If the vehicle is in need of repair or cleaning due to a traffic accident, incident, theft, breakdown, defacement, smoking in a nicotine-containing vehicle, or or similar cause not attributable to Nippon Rent-A-Car, the customer shall not be liable for the use of the vehicle during repair or cleaning. NOC may be charged as part of the loss.

Cases that Invalidate Insurance/Protection

You are expected to drive the vehicle in accordance with the rental agreement. You will be responsible for any damage caused by any of the following actions or situations: In such cases, the aforementioned insurance/protection/CDW/ECO may not apply. If Nippon Rent-A-Car meets your payment obligation, you must immediately reimburse Nippon Rent-A-Car for the amount.

■Failure to comply with necessary procedures, such as reporting to the police and Nippon Rent-A-Car at the scene of the accident.

Please contact the police and Nippon Rent-A-Car at the location of the accident or incident, regardless of the extent of the damage, the involvement of third parties, or whether there was negligence.

■Violation of the terms of the rental agreement

Violation of the Road Traffic Act, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, unauthorized extension of the rental period, driving or renting by anyone other than the driver or additional driver, driving without a valid driver's license, dangerous driving, using a vehicle contrary to public order and morals, settling without the consent of Nippon Rent-A-Car, etc.

■Exemptions outside the scope of the applicable insurance policy or compensation system.

Intentionally caused damage, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, towing costs and or similar related costs in the event of a total loss of the vehicle, flat or damaged tires, missing hubcaps, etc. owned by the lessee or driver. , damage to property or items used or stored.

■Failure to properly use or maintain the rental car

Theft of the vehicle with the keys in the ignition, loss of vehicle keys, damage due to improper parking, soiling or odor of vehicle interior and accessories (including smoking in No Smoking Car), loss of vehicle accessories, improper parking, etc. Damage to equipment and accessories due to improper handling or installation, incorrect refueling, damage caused by driving off-road (on the coast, riverbed, etc.), etc.

*If you lose your key, you are responsible for the cost of the key and the actual expenses incurred by Nippon Rent-A-Car to deliver the key.

In the event of an accident or incident

All accidents must be reported to the police, regardless of the extent of the damage or the involvement of third parties. Stop operation immediately and take the following steps.

*If you do not follow the necessary police procedures, our insurance/protection/CDW/ECO may not apply.

1. First, provide aid to the injured person.

If someone is injured, call an ambulance immediately. ≪Telephone: 119≫ Then, immediately move your vehicle to a place where it does not interfere with other traffic.

2. Contact the police from the scene.

All parties involved in an accident are obligated to report the incident to the police, regardless of whether they were at fault. Complete all necessary procedures to submit an accident report (accident certificate). This will be needed at a later date.

3. Please contact our Accident Reception Center.

Please report the accident to Nippon Rent-A-Car 's Accident Reception Center from the scene. Please have your rental agreement handy and call the number below.

1. If your car has an illegal parking sticker, please go to the local police station immediately.

2. Follow the instructions, pay your fine, and keep your stamped receipt.

3. Please present the illegal parking sticker and receipt when return the car.
If payment of the fine cannot be confirmed, a deposit will be requested as follows.

Traffic rules and signs

Japanese traffic rules

1. In Japan, you drive on the left. Turning left at a red light is not allowed.
However, if the green arrow signal is on, you can follow the green arrow and turn left at the red light.

The ETC (electronic toll collection) system allows drivers to pay their toll without stopping at a toll plaza.

Refueling vehicles

●Before return your car, please refuel at the nearest gas station.

●If you fail to refuel, Nippon Rent-A-Car will charge you a refueling fee based on the kilometers traveled or the fuel gauge display.
Please note that the refueling fee in this case may be higher than the amount you would pay at a regular gas station.

●Refuel with gasoline or diesel oil as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

When you refuel at a self-service gas station

When you refuel at a self-service gas station, be careful of fuel leaks and filling the wrong fuel. If you accidentally fill up your car with the wrong type of fuel, please contact the car rental office immediately. Do not attempt to start the engine.
When the engine is started, the vehicle may experience symptoms such as reduced power, emissions of black smoke, and knocking noises.
If you accidentally start the engine, immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact the rental office where you picked up your vehicle. If the office is closed, please contact our Roadside Assistance Desk on 0120-081-365. (International call: 81-188889194)
If you refuel with the wrong fuel, the engine may require repair. You are responsible for all costs of such repairs.


Regular

The red nozzle contains regular gasoline. Choose this if you refuel most passenger cars, minivans, cargo vans, and light trucks.

High Octane

The yellow nozzle contains high octane gasoline. This type is suitable for certain passenger cars.

Diesel

The green nozzle contains diesel oil. Select this if you are refueling a vehicle with a diesel engine.
